Some shoppers are more comfortable reading in Hindi or their own language. A store they can read in it feels made for them. Mercayo can show your whole store in Hindi and other Indian languages, each at its own address (/hi/…), with your main language unchanged. This guide sets up Hindi; other languages work the same way.
Step 1: Add Hindi
- Open Settings › Languages and Currencies.
- Check Other Languages is on (it is by default).
- Under Add a Language, choose Hindi and press ADD.
- Choose Where the Language Switch Shows: Header and footer (default) or Footer only. The phone menu always has it.
Your store now answers at /hi/ too: the same pages, in Hindi where translated. See Languages and Currencies.
Step 2: Check Mercayo's Words in Hindi
The store's own words (ADD TO BAG, checkout labels, messages) come from Mercayo, which provides reviewed Hindi for the store's key words. Any word not translated yet shows in English.
- Open Settings › Localization, set Language to Hindi.
- Search the words you care about most (bag, checkout, delivery, cash on delivery) and adjust any to how your shoppers speak. A Machine translation mark shows words worth checking.
- SAVE.
How the levels of text work is explained in Localization.
Step 3: Translate Your Content
Your products, collections, categories, pages and menus are yours to translate:
- Open Translate (from Languages and Currencies, TRANSLATE).
- Start with what shoppers see most: the home page, the header and footer menus, your best-selling products and their collections.
- For each, type the Hindi beside the original, field by field, and save.
The Translate screen shows how much is done and what has gone out of date when you change the original later. See Translate.
Step 4: Tell Shoppers
- Add a Hindi line to your Instagram bio and WhatsApp status with the
/hi/link, for exampleyourbrand.in/hi/. - Search engines see each language's own address and the alternate-language tags, so the Hindi pages can be listed in Hindi searches.
Step 5 (Optional): Make Hindi Your Main Language
If most of your shoppers read Hindi, MAKE MAIN on Hindi in Languages and Currencies: your plain addresses then show Hindi, and English moves under its own address. Links people saved keep working.
