Partial COD (Mercayo calls it Part Payment for COD) asks cash on delivery shoppers to pay a small part online when they order, and the rest in cash at the door. A shopper who has paid something rarely refuses the parcel; if they do, the part paid can cover your return trip. It needs your own Razorpay account connected.
How It Works
Mercayo looks at the bag (goods after discounts, plus delivery, plus GST):
- A small bag (below Small Bag Below, ₹499 by default) pays a COD charge online now (₹69 by default) and the whole bag in cash.
- A larger bag pays an advance online now (10% by default, rounded to ₹10), and the rest in cash.
| Bag | Paid Online Now | Paid in Cash on Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| ₹399 | ₹69 (COD charge) | ₹399 |
| ₹1,299 | ₹130 (10% is ₹129.90, rounded up to ₹10) | ₹1,169 |
| ₹2,450 | ₹250 | ₹2,200 |
At checkout the shopper sees the split, for example "Pay ₹130 now, ₹1,169 in cash on delivery", and pays the part on Razorpay.
Set It Up
- Connect Razorpay in Settings › Payments. See Set Up Payments. Part payment works even while full Online Payments is off.
- Open Settings › Checkout and COD, card Part Payment for COD.
- Switch on Part Payment for COD.
- Set Small Bag Below, COD Charge on Small Bags and Advance on Larger Bags (0% to 50%).
- Set Round the Advance To (₹1 to ₹100) and Rounding (Up or Nearest).
- Decide Refund the Part Paid When a Parcel Is Refused: off (default) keeps it to cover the return trip; on refunds it.
- Press SAVE, then place a test order on your store with cash on delivery to see the split.
What Happens to the Order
- The order waits for the part paid online, with its stock held.
- Paid: the order is confirmed and the stock is committed. Only the cash part is due on delivery. Labels for part-paid orders cannot be made through Shiprocket yet: ship them from Shiprocket's dashboard with only the cash part to collect.
- Not paid within Time to Pay (30 minutes by default): the order is cancelled and its stock and offer uses go back.
- Cancelled later: what was paid online is marked for a refund on the order (see Refunds); press REFUND to send it.
- Refused at the door: the setting in step 6 decides whether the part paid is refunded or kept.
Choosing Your Numbers
- COD charge: just above what a return trip costs you, so a refusal costs you nothing.
- Advance: 10% is gentle; 20% filters harder. Very high advances push shoppers to pay fully online, which is fine too.
- Small Bag Below: near your most common order value, so most orders pay the advance.
Questions
Is the COD charge taxed?
Yes: it carries GST at the GST on Delivery and Fees rate, added on top when your prices exclude GST and included when they include it. It appears on the order as its own line.
Can a shopper pay everything online instead?
Yes, when Online Payments is on: they simply choose to pay online.
Does part payment replace the confirmation code?
They work together. A paid part already proves the shopper is real, and you can use both. See Cut Fake COD Orders.
