Import from Shopify

Move your Shopify catalogue and customers to Mercayo: export the CSV files from Shopify, check them in Mercayo, read the preview, import, and finish what files cannot carry.

Last updated 19 October 2026

Moving from Shopify takes two files and a few minutes. Mercayo reads Shopify's own CSV exports: products with their variants, prices, MRP, stock, SKUs, tags, pictures and descriptions, and customers with their marketing consent. You see exactly what will change before anything does. The screen is explained in Import and Export.

Step 1: Export from Shopify

Products: in Shopify, Products, Export, All products, CSV for Excel. Customers: in Shopify, Customers, Export, All customers, CSV for Excel.

You receive CSV files by email or download. Keep them as CSV (do not open and re-save them in Excel, which can change prices and SKUs).

Step 2: Import Products

  1. In Mercayo open Settings › Import and Export, tab Import.
  2. What to Import: Products. Exported From: Shopify.
  3. Options:
    • New Products Start As: Draft (hidden until you publish) is safest for a first import; a status written in the file wins.
    • Tick Copy pictures from the links in the file into your store, so your pictures move to Mercayo (Shopify's links can stop working when you close your Shopify store).
    • Tick Make the categories, collections and brands the file names when your store has none of that name.
  4. Drop the file in and press CHECK FILE.
  5. Read the preview: Will Be Added, Will Be Updated, With Problems, Pictures to Copy, new categories, collections and brands, and notes ("Descriptions simplified", "Gift card rows passed over").
  6. Fix any Rows with Problems in the file if you need those rows (or leave them out), then press IMPORT. You can leave the page; the result waits there.

Gift card products are passed over: make gift cards in Gift Cards.

Step 3: Import Customers

  1. What to Import: Customers, Exported From: Shopify.
  2. Drop the file, CHECK FILE, read the preview, IMPORT.

Names, email, phone, tags, note, and the default address when it is in India with a PIN code come across. "Marketing consent is copied as the file states it" (Accepts Email Marketing, Accepts SMS Marketing). A customer who said no in your Mercayo store stays that way. Import only people who agreed to hear from you.

Step 4: Finish What Files Cannot Carry

  • HSN codes and GST rates: if your file had no HSN column, add each product's HSN code (see Prices, MRP and GST).
  • Collections and menus: check the collections created and build your menus (see Menus).
  • Old addresses: Shopify's URLs (/products/..., /collections/...) usually match Mercayo's. For others, add URL Redirects so links and search rankings keep working.
  • Orders: past orders are not imported; keep Shopify's order export for your records.
  • Your domain: when ready, point it to Mercayo (see Connect Your Own Domain).
  • Publish: if you imported as Draft, check a few products, then set them Active (in bulk from the Products list).

Importing Again

Fix the file and import it again: "rows already imported are updated, never doubled" (products match by handle).

Questions

How many products can I import at once?

Up to your plan's rows per file (10,000 on Starter, 50,000 on Growth, 100,000 on Scale) and 20 MB. Split bigger files.

Will my product reviews come across?

No. Reviews are not part of Shopify's product export; your Mercayo reviews start fresh.

My file is .xlsx. What now?

Open it and save it as CSV (comma separated), then choose that file.
