Recover Abandoned Bags

Win back shoppers who reached checkout and left: switch on bag reminders, choose timing, channel and a code, watch what is recovered, and fix the reasons bags are left.

Every day some shoppers fill a bag, start checkout, type their phone or email, and leave. A gentle reminder can bring some of them back. This guide turns on reminders, picks sensible timing, and shows how to judge whether it works.

Step 1: Look at What You Are Missing

Open Orders › Abandoned Bags. The summary shows, for the last 30 days: Abandoned Bags, Value Left (what was in them), Recovered and Recovered Sales. Even with reminders off, bags are listed, so you can see the size of the opportunity. See Abandoned Bags.

Step 2: Turn Reminders On

  1. Press Reminder settings (or open Settings › Bag Reminders).
  2. Switch on Bag Reminders.
  3. Keep the default timing to start: First Reminder After 60 minutes, Second Reminder After 1,440 (one day), Third Reminder After 4,320 (three days). Set any to 0 to skip it.
  4. Send Reminders By: Email, Whatsapp or Both. WhatsApp reminders go only to shoppers who said yes to WhatsApp, and need WhatsApp Marketing (included on Growth and Scale, an add-on on Starter).
  5. Quiet From 21 and Quiet Until 9 keep reminders out of the night (India time).
  6. Press SAVE.

Only shoppers who reached checkout and gave a phone or email are reminded, each with a link back to their own bag. Once they order (from the bag, or with the same phone or email), reminders stop.

Step 3: Decide About a Code

Code to Offer mentions a discount code in reminders, for example COMEBACK10:

  1. Create the code in Discounts: a small saving, one use per customer, perhaps a minimum order.
  2. Type it in Code to Offer and save.

A code that ends or is switched off is left out automatically. You may prefer to remind without a code first, and add one only if recovery stays low: a code teaches some shoppers to wait for it.

Step 4: Check the Messages and Credits

  • The words of the reminder email and WhatsApp message can be changed in Localization and previewed in Notifications.
  • Reminders count as marketing messages: they never use your plan's message bundle and are paid from your notification credits.

Step 5: Watch the Results

After a week or two, open Abandoned Bags again:

  • Recovered (the share of bags) and Recovered Sales, with "After a reminder: …".
  • The Reminded and Recovered tabs show which bags came back.
  • Compare with the period before (the arrows on each number).

Step 6: Fix Why Bags Are Left

Reminders recover some bags; fixing the cause recovers more. Look at:

  • Delivery charges shown late: show free delivery above an amount (see Free Delivery Over an Amount).
  • No COD for the PIN or a COD limit the shopper did not expect.
  • The code step at checkout: a big drop from checkout to order in the Visits to Orders funnel (Analytics, Traffic) can mean shoppers stop at SEND CODE.
  • Payment failures: online orders not paid in Time to Pay are cancelled; the shopper can get one bag reminder for them.

Questions

Reminders go only to shoppers who reached checkout and gave a phone or email, and each carries a link to stop these messages; Mercayo bills them as marketing messages. Keep it about their bag and be thoughtful with offers. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

Why was a bag not reminded?

Reminders were off at the time, the shopper gave no phone or email, they ordered meanwhile, or the reminder fell in quiet hours and is waiting until morning.
