Change Domain
Move Your Store to a New Domain Without Losing a Link
A new name, a shorter domain, a .com instead of a .in: moving should not mean months of broken links. CHANGE DOMAIN connects the new domain, shows every place that names the old one, switches in one step, keeps the old address redirecting for as long as you choose, and then checks that nothing of it is left.

Kosha is a demo store on Mercayo. Its products, orders and customers are sample data.
In short
What It Does
Settings → Domains → CHANGE DOMAIN moves a store from one domain of its own to another, in four steps shown at the top of the page: New Domain, Preview, Switch and Old Domain.
- New Domain. Type the domain you are moving to and press CONNECT NEW DOMAIN. It is connected like any domain (its records at your domain provider, or added for you through Connect Cloudflare, then its free certificate), even when your plan's domain count is full, because the old one is leaving. Nothing changes for shoppers yet.
- Preview. Every place in your store that names the old domain, found now and grouped by area (pages and sections, products, menus, the theme, settings, store texts and translations, URL redirects, forms, messages still to send and more), each with its count and a few examples. Beside it: what is kept as it is and why, and what Mercayo does itself.
- Switch. SWITCH TO NEW DOMAIN makes the new domain your primary address and rewrites every link in one go, changing only the exact old address (a different domain that merely contains the same letters is left alone). Every page is rebuilt at once, so no visitor meets an old link.
- Old Domain. Your choice: Redirect, Then Remove (recommended, 90 days to start with, 1 to 365) or Remove Now (you type the old domain to confirm).
What Is Kept on Purpose
Records of what already happened stay exactly as they were: issued invoices and credit notes (GST documents are never altered), messages already sent, what shoppers wrote (orders, addresses, their messages) and your activity log. WhatsApp templates that Meta approved as written are kept too, with a step telling you how to change and resubmit them.
During the Redirect
Every page of the old domain answers with a permanent redirect to the same page on the new one, so old links in emails, bookmarks, search results and printed QR codes keep working. A shopper who arrives with something in the bag, or signed in, is handed over to the new domain with the same bag and a fresh sign-in, through a one-time link that works once for five minutes. A guest's wishlist travels with them too.
After the Switch
What Mercayo Did lists each part as it happens: links changed, pages refreshed, the new domain's records (added in Cloudflare for you, or added by you), the email sender, your admin's own address (admin.yournewdomain when you had one on the old domain), and the old domain's removal. While the old domain still redirects, UNDO takes you back; anything you edited since the switch is kept as you left it, and the page lists it.
When the old domain is removed, Mercayo takes away only the records it added in your Cloudflare account (your own MX and DMARC records stay), and runs the Trace Check: your store's data, its home page, a product page, the sitemap, robots.txt, the product feeds, the headers and the shopper emails are read again for the old domain. The answer is "No trace of yourolddomain.in left", or exactly what remains and where.
Steps Outside Mercayo
Some places only you can change. Outside Mercayo lists each with where to go, what to change (old and new, with COPY buttons), how, and a DONE tick: your domain provider's DNS, Google Search Console's Change of Address, Google Merchant Center, Meta, Google Analytics and Ads, Razorpay, your courier panels, WhatsApp, mailboxes on the old domain, social profiles, Google Business Profile, and printed material. The ones Mercayo knows you use are marked You Use This.
Every change of domain stays in Domain History on Settings → Domains: from and to, when, by whom, the links changed, when the old domain was removed and the trace check's verdict.
For your store
Why It Matters
Brands rename, buy the domain they always wanted, or move from a .in to a .com. On most platforms the domain is the easy part and the leftovers are the hard part: the old address written into a hundred product descriptions, banner links and menu items, emails still naming it, a sitemap and feeds pointing two ways, and search rankings split while Google works out what happened.
A change of domain here is one step with a preview before it and an undo after it. The redirect keeps every old link working while customers and search engines catch up (a permanent redirect is how search engines move rankings to a new address), shoppers keep their bags across the move, and the trace check at the end tells you plainly whether anything still names the old domain.
Your orders, customers, products and invoices do not move anywhere: they stay in your store, as they are. Only the address changes.
Step by step
How It Works
Open Change Domain
In Settings → Domains, the Change Domain card has CHANGE DOMAIN. It moves a store from one of its own domains to another, so your current domain must be connected and your plan must include an own domain. Only one change of domain can be open at a time.
Connect the New Domain
Type it as you would in a browser and press CONNECT NEW DOMAIN: both yournewbrand.in and www.yournewbrand.in are connected. Add the records the page lists at your domain provider (or connect Cloudflare on the Domains screen and Mercayo adds them), then CHECK NOW. Once the new domain has its certificate, the page says you can preview the change.
Read the Preview
What Changes lists every place naming the old domain by area, with counts and examples, and what is kept and why. Each line opens on a tap, so a phone shows the whole change in a few screens.
Choose What Happens to the Old Domain
Keep Redirect, Then Remove and set Days to Redirect (Google needs a few weeks to move your pages), or choose Remove Now. Then press SWITCH TO NEW DOMAIN and confirm. The page shows "Your Store Is on yournewbrand.in" and how many links changed.
Finish the Steps Outside Mercayo
Work through Outside Mercayo: each card says where, what and how, and you tick DONE as you go. Start with Google Search Console's Change of Address and your payment and courier accounts.
Let the Old Domain Go
When the redirect ends (or with REMOVE NOW earlier), the old domain is removed and the Trace Check runs. RUN TRACE CHECK reads everything again whenever you like. Until then, UNDO brings the old domain back.

What Your Shoppers See
Nothing breaks for shoppers. During the redirect, any old link (an email, a bookmark, a Google result, a QR code on a packing slip) opens the same page on your new domain, with the same bag and still signed in. From the moment you switch, your pages, emails, sitemap, product feeds and sharing pictures all use the new domain.
Settings
Settings You Control
All are under Settings → Domains → CHANGE DOMAIN → Switch.
Mercayo
Mercayo's Controls
Changing domain is on for every store whose plan includes an own domain; Mercayo can switch it off for a store, and the card then says "Mercayo has turned off changing domain for this store." Mercayo can also fix the number of days to redirect for a store. Mercayo's team can switch, undo, cancel or remove the old domain for a store when asked, each with a reason kept in Mercayo's audit log and a line in your activity log. Mercayo never buys, sells or holds your domains: they stay yours at your domain provider. Mercayo changes DNS only through a Cloudflare token you connected, and removes only the records it added.
Limits today
Good to Know Before You Start
- It moves a store from one own domain to another; a store still on its free Mercayo address simply connects a domain instead.
- Emails, text messages and WhatsApp messages already sent, invoices already issued and printed material keep the old domain; their links work only while the old domain redirects.
- After the old domain is removed it opens nothing, so links to it stop working; that is why the redirect is recommended.
- Places outside Mercayo (Google, Meta, Razorpay, courier panels, social profiles) are changed by you, with the steps the page lists.
- Mailboxes on the old domain are not moved: you create them on the new domain at your email provider.
- Text message templates registered on the DLT portal with the old domain must be registered again by you.
Questions
About Change Domain
Will I lose my orders, customers or reviews?
No. Nothing moves except the address. Orders, customers, products, reviews and invoices stay in your store exactly as they are; only links that name the old domain change.
What happens to my Google rankings?
Every page of the old domain answers with a permanent redirect to the same page on the new one, which is how search engines move rankings to a new address. Use Google Search Console's Change of Address too (the page lists it) and keep the redirect for at least a few weeks.
Can I change my mind?
Yes, while the old domain still redirects: UNDO puts it back as your primary address and restores the links. Anything you edited after the switch is kept as you left it and listed. With Remove Now there is no undo.
Why are some places kept with the old domain?
Because they record what already happened: issued GST invoices and credit notes must stay as issued, sent messages cannot be changed, and what shoppers wrote stays in their words. The preview names each with its reason.
Do shoppers lose their bag when they come in through an old link?
No. A shopper with a bag or a sign-in is handed over to the new domain once, with the same bag and a new sign-in there; a guest's wishlist is carried over too.
Does my email sender move too?
Yes. Email from your old domain moves to the new one once the new domain's email records check out; until then, shopper emails go from Mercayo's address with replies to you, never silently dropped.
Can I move from my free Mercayo address?
You do not need to: connect your own domain on Settings → Domains and it becomes your primary address. Change Domain is for moving between two domains of your own.
