A free gift offer lets a shopper choose a gift at ₹0 once the bag qualifies: "Spend ₹1,499 and choose a free pouch", "Buy any saree, get a free blouse piece", "Free sample with every order". The gift is a real product from your catalogue, added to the order as its own ₹0 line; nothing else in the bag changes price. Gifts are made in the Discount Editor as the value Free gift: "Buy something, choose a gift. The gift is added at ₹0; nothing else changes price."
Making gift offers needs the right to edit discounts (the owner, admins and the Marketer role). Gifts work while Free Gifts is on in Settings › Bag and Wishlist (on by default): "Free gift offers apply, and the bag asks the shopper to choose their gift. Off: no gift offer applies." See Bag and Wishlist Settings.
How to Make a Free Gift Offer
For a jewellery brand in Mumbai giving a velvet pouch over ₹1,499:
- Go to Marketing › Discounts and press CREATE DISCOUNT.
- Choose Automatic offer for a gift everyone gets, or keep Discount code for a gift with a code. Title it "Free velvet pouch over ₹1,499".
- In Value, choose Free gift.
- Under What Counts Towards the Minimum, keep Anything in the bag, or choose Chosen products, collections or categories and pick them (for "buy any earrings, get a pouch").
- In Gifts to Choose From, press Browse products and pick the pouch. Every option of a product you pick is added as a gift choice ("Velvet pouch · Red", "Velvet pouch · Black").
- In Minimum Purchase, choose Minimum amount (₹) and type 1499, or Minimum number of items.
- Set the Limits, Who Can Use It and Active Dates as you like.
- Press SAVE.
The Gift Choices
- Up to 12 gifts in all: "At most 12 gifts". Products are added option by option until 12 are reached.
- Remove a choice with the × on its chip.
- "Shoppers choose one. Sold-out gifts are greyed in the bag; each gift's stock goes down when it is ordered."
- An offer with no gift cannot be saved: "Choose at least one gift".
The Minimum
The minimum is read on the items that count, before any discount:
- With Anything in the bag, the whole bag counts.
- With Chosen products, collections or categories, only those items count.
So a shopper with a ₹1,600 bag and a 10% code still qualifies for a gift over ₹1,499, because the minimum is read before the code.
Gifts and Other Offers
A gift changes no price, so it does not fight with price offers for the shopper's saving. A new gift offer starts with every kind ticked under Combinations, so the gift comes on top of the bag's codes, sales and free delivery.
- With the ticks on, the gift joins the bag's other offers of the kinds it ticks.
- With nothing ticked, the gift applies only to a bag no other offer touches. A gift code then tells the shopper it does not combine.
- Applies on its own on another offer keeps the gift away while that offer applies.
One gift per bag. When a bag qualifies for several gift offers, the gift the shopper chose wins, else the one from the bag's code, else the oldest automatic one. See Combining Discounts.
What Shoppers See
In the Bag
- Short of the minimum: "Add ₹350 more to choose a free gift", or "Add 1 more item to choose a free gift".
- Once it qualifies: Choose Your Free Gift, a row of the gift choices marked FREE, each with its usual price. Sold-out ones are greyed and marked Sold out. Tapping one picks it: Your Free Gift.
- With only one choice in stock, it is chosen for the shopper.
- The gift line shows at ₹0 with its usual price beside it, "Free gift, worth ₹299".
The gift picker shows on the bag page and in every bag style except Mini Bag (the small panel under the bag icon on wide screens).
On Product Pages
A live automatic gift offer for chosen products, with no shopper condition, can show a label on those products' cards and product page: "Free gift", or "Free gift over ₹1,499" with a minimum. A gift for any order never shows as a card label, because it would be on every card; tell shoppers in your announcement bar instead. See Automatic Offers.
If Something Changes
- A chosen gift that sells out before checkout leaves the bag's price as it was, and the picker asks again. The shopper never meets an error at checkout because of a gift.
- If the bag stops qualifying (an item removed), the choice is kept but not shown or ordered. It comes back if the bag qualifies again.
On the Order
- The gift is its own line on the order at ₹0, marked as a free gift on the shopper's order page.
- Its stock is held and goes down like any item.
- The offer's use is counted, so Total Uses and Uses per Customer work as for any discount ("one free pouch per customer").
- The gift line carries no GST because its value is ₹0, and the bag's totals, delivery's "free above", the COD limit and every other offer are untouched by it.
Whether a free gift needs any GST treatment in your books is for your CA: this is general guidance, not tax advice.
Good to Know
- A gift code works like any code, with its own code only: one-time codes are not offered for gift offers.
- Try a Bag in the editor shows a gift offer as "A gift offer: the bag's gift picker shows it."
- The Discounts list shows gift offers as "Free gift".
- For "buy a case, get this grip free", where the free item is one fixed product the shopper adds, a Buy X Get Y offer is the better fit.
Questions
Can a shopper choose two gifts?
No. One gift per bag. Make the offer's gift list as varied as you like (up to 12 choices).
Is the gift added to the bag by itself?
The bag asks the shopper to choose. When only one gift is in stock, it is chosen for them.
Does the gift count towards free delivery?
No. The gift is ₹0, so it changes no total, including delivery's "free above".
What happens to the gift if the order is cancelled?
The order is cancelled like any order, the gift's stock comes back with the rest, and the offer's use is given back.
Why does my gift offer not show in the bag?
Check that Free Gifts is on in Settings › Bag and Wishlist, the offer is active and within its dates, the bag reaches the minimum on the items that count, and no exclusive offer is on the bag. Try a Bag in the editor gives the reason.
