A bag often meets the rules of more than one offer: a sitewide 10% sale, a bundle on kurtis, free delivery over ₹999, and the shopper's WELCOME10 code. Mercayo decides which apply together and which compete, with rules you set on each offer and two store-wide choices. The goal is simple: shoppers get exactly what your offers promise, never more by accident and never less. This article explains the rules; the fields are in the Combinations card of the Discount Editor and in Discount Settings.
The Three Kinds of Offer
Every discount belongs to one kind:
| Kind | Offers of This Kind |
|---|---|
| Product offers | "Bundles, add-on prices and money off chosen items": a percentage or amount off chosen products, fixed prices, bundles and quantity prices, add-on prices, buy X get Y |
| Order offers | "Money off the whole order (codes or automatic)": a percentage or amount off the order, spend tiers |
| Free delivery | "Free delivery offers and codes", including an amount or percentage off delivery and delivery at a set price |
A free gift is a fourth case: "This is a gift offer (it changes no price)."
The Rule: Each Must Tick the Other
On each offer, Combines With has three ticks: Product offers, Order offers and Free delivery. "Two offers apply together only when each ticks the other's kind. With nothing ticked it competes on its own, and the shopper gets the bigger saving."
Examples for a saree shop in Surat:
- A collection sale (product offer) ticks Order offers. The code
FESTIVE10(order offer) ticks Product offers. They apply together: the sale first, then 10% off what is left. - The same sale ticks Order offers, but
FESTIVE10ticks nothing. They compete: the shopper gets whichever saves more. - Free delivery over ₹999 ticks Product offers and Order offers, and the sale and the code both tick Free delivery. All three apply.
A new offer starts with nothing ticked, so nothing stacks unless you choose it. Two exceptions start with every kind ticked because the product page or the bag promised them: an Add-on price (it comes on top of the bag's other automatic offers, as "₹399 with this watch" promised) and a Free gift. Their card says: "It comes on top of the bag's other automatic offers when you tick their kind (it was promised on the product page or in the bag); a code joins it only when the code ticks it too."
One Product Offer per Item
"An item gets one product offer at most: where two would touch the same item, the first applies." Two product offers can both apply to one bag, each on its own items (a bundle on kurtis and 20% off dupattas), but never two on the same kurti. The other offer's minimum still reads every item it is for, so this rule never decides whether an offer qualifies.
Applies on Its Own
Tick Applies on its own for an offer that must stand alone, such as a clearance price: "When it applies, no other offer, gift or add-on price does." Its three ticks are greyed. If the bag gets it, a note tells the shopper why another offer is not used: "Festive sale cannot be used together with the offer on your bag."
Which Offers Win
When offers compete, Which Offers Win in Discount Settings decides.
Best (the Default)
The shopper gets the biggest saving the offers allow. Mercayo prices every live automatic offer and every code on the bag on its own, then builds the combinations your ticks allow and keeps the one that saves most. On a tie it prefers the plan with more of the shopper's codes, else a single offer; between two single offers, an automatic one before a code (so no code's use is spent for nothing), then your priority order, then the oldest.
The Priority tab says: "Your store gives shoppers the biggest saving, so this order only settles a tie."
Priority
Your order in the Priority tab of the Discounts list decides: "The first offer that applies wins; each next one joins when it combines with those before it." An offer marked Applies on its own that comes first stops the rest. Use this when you want control, for example a members' offer always ahead of a public sale.
How to Set the Priority Order
- Go to Marketing › Discounts and open the Priority tab.
- Drag the offers into order, or use the up and down arrows.
- Press SAVE ORDER.
The editor's Combinations card repeats the store's choice and has See the order, which opens this tab.
The Order Savings Are Taken In
Once the bag's offers are chosen, they are applied one after another, each on what the ones before it left:
- Product offers, add-on prices first, then the others in the plan's order. A percentage is worked out per line; an amount off each item never takes a line below ₹0.
- Order offers, on what the product offers left. Two order offers compound: 10% then ₹100 off is 10% off, then ₹100 off what is left. An order saving is shared across the lines by their value.
- Delivery offers, on the delivery charge. The Cash on Delivery fee is never discounted. Delivery's own "free above" reads the bag after the discounts.
- The gift, a ₹0 line, when it joins.
- Pay-online offers wait until the shopper chooses to pay online; the bag shows what they would add.
- GST is worked out on each line's value after all its discounts, so the bag, the order and the GST invoice agree to the paisa.
Example: two ₹1,000 sarees in a "2 for ₹1,800" bundle, plus FESTIVE10 (combining), plus free delivery over ₹999. The bundle takes ₹200 off, the code takes 10% of ₹1,800 (₹180), and delivery is free because the bag after discounts, ₹1,620, is above ₹999.
Several Codes on One Order
Codes per Bag (1 to 3, default 1) in Discount Settings lets shoppers type more than one code. Each code must combine with the others, by the same ticks. A code that does not is shown with its reason ("WELCOME10 does not combine with the offers on your bag."), and a second code of the same discount never applies ("… is the same offer as another code on your bag.").
When Combining Is Switched Off
With Combining Offers off in Discount Settings, "a bag gets the single best offer" (or the first by priority), whatever the ticks say. A gift then applies only to a bag no price offer touches. Every offer's editor says: "Combining offers is switched off for your store: a bag gets the single best offer."
What Shoppers See
- Each applied offer is its own line in the bag and at checkout, with its title and saving.
- Under the lines, a quiet note names the biggest offer that would have applied alone but did not combine: "Festive sale does not combine with the offers on your bag."
- The code box lists each code with its saving or its reason, and a REMOVE button for each.
How to Check a Combination Before Shoppers Do
Open any offer and use Try a Bag at the bottom of the editor. Add the products, the codes, a phone and a PIN, and press TRY THIS BAG. Every Offer lists each offer the bag looked at with Applied, Not combined, Does not apply or Saves nothing, and why: "Would save ₹180 alone, but does not combine with the offers that save more together.", "Its items already have another product offer.", "An exclusive offer applies on its own, so this one does not."
Mercayo Controls
Combining Offers, Which Offers Win and Codes per Bag are store settings Mercayo can force or limit for your store; the admin then shows them as locked with Mercayo's note.
Good to Know
- Product prices on cards and product pages never move with combinations. The bundle box on a product page shows the bundle's own saving only, so a cached page never promises a combination.
- "Add more" hints in the bag show only when the extra item would really unlock an offer that combines with the bag's others.
- Mercayo finds the best combination by building it offer by offer, starting from each offer in turn, and keeps the set that saves most.
Questions
Why did the shopper get only one of my two offers?
They do not both tick each other's kind under Combinations, or one is Applies on its own, or both are product offers on the same items. Try a Bag names the reason.
Can a code apply on items already on sale?
Yes, unless the code leaves them out with Items Already on Sale › Leave them out under Exclusions. Items "on sale" are those priced below their MRP.
Can two percentage codes stack on one item?
Two order codes that tick Order offers compound on the order. Two product offers never apply to the same item.
Does the priority order matter when the store gives the best saving?
Only for ties. Switch Which Offers Win to Priority if your order should decide.
Is the COD fee ever discounted?
No. Free delivery and delivery discounts never touch the Cash on Delivery fee.
