A new Mercayo store starts with free delivery, so you can take orders on day one. This guide walks you through setting real delivery charges and connecting a courier so labels, pickups and tracking happen from your admin. The full reference for every field is in Shipping and Delivery and Couriers.
How Mercayo Prices Delivery
The How Delivery Is Priced card on the screen sums it up in four rules, which checkout follows exactly:
- A shopper's PIN code gives their state; the state's zone picks the rates. States in no zone use the rates for every other state.
- The bag's weight picks the band: from its weight up to, not including, the next band.
- Delivery is free when the bag, after discounts, is at or above the rate's Free Above amount.
- PIN rules come first: the longest matching rule can stop deliveries, cash on delivery, or add days.
So you build delivery from four pieces: Delivery Methods (what the shopper chooses, such as "Standard delivery"), Zones (groups of states), Rates (a price per method, zone and weight band) and PIN Code Rules (exceptions).
Step 1: Give Your Products a Weight
Rates use the parcel's weight, the sum of the weights in the bag. Make sure each product (or each variant) has its weight in grams in the product editor. A product without a weight adds nothing to the bag's weight.
Step 2: Name Your Delivery Methods
Open Settings › Shipping and Delivery. Under Delivery Methods, edit the method you have or press ADD METHOD:
| Field | Example | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Name Shoppers See | Standard delivery | Shown at checkout with its price and dates |
| Code | standard | For reports; shoppers do not see it |
| Fastest (Days) and Slowest (Days) | 3 and 7 | The delivery estimate shown to shoppers. Leave both empty to show none |
| Metro Fastest (Days) and Metro Slowest (Days) | 2 and 4 | Used for metro PIN codes; empty uses the days above |
| Offer This Method | On | Turned off, shoppers do not see it |
| Allow Cash on Delivery | On | With this method, when your COD setting allows it |
| Shoppers' First Choice | On for one method | Picked for them until they choose another |
Add a second method (for example "Express delivery", 1 to 2 days) if you offer one. With more than one method for a PIN code, shoppers choose at checkout, unless you turn off Choice of Delivery Speed in Checkout and COD.
Step 3: Group States Into Zones (Optional)
If delivery costs the same everywhere, skip this: every state uses the same rates. Otherwise press ADD ZONE, give it a Zone Name (for example "North East" or "South India") and tick the States in This Zone. A state can be in one zone only.
Step 4: Add Your Rates
Under Rates, press ADD RATE for each method, place and weight band:
| Field | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Method | Standard delivery | Which method this price is for |
| Where | Every other state | A zone, or every other state |
| From (g) and Up To (g) | 0 and 1000 | The weight band. Up To is not included; empty means no limit |
| Price (₹) | 49 | What the shopper pays |
| Free Above (₹) | 499 | Optional. A bag at or above this (after discounts) ships free |
The Shoppers Get line previews the result in words, for example "Standard delivery: ₹49 for 0–1,000 g in every other state; free above ₹499".
An Example
A phone-case brand in Jaipur charges ₹49 for delivery anywhere, free above ₹499; ₹99 to the North East; and parcels over 1 kg cost ₹99 more:
- Zone North East: Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim.
- Standard delivery, every other state: 0–1,000 g ₹49 free above ₹499; 1,000 g and over ₹148.
- Standard delivery, North East: 0–1,000 g ₹99 free above ₹999; 1,000 g and over ₹198.
Step 5: Add PIN Code Rules (Optional)
Under PIN Code Rules, ADD RULE for exceptions by the first digits of the PIN code (1 to 6 digits: 7930 covers 793001 to 793099). The longest matching rule wins.
- Deliver Here off: shoppers there cannot order ("Not delivered").
- Allow Cash on Delivery off: online payment only there ("No COD").
- Extra Days: add days to the estimate (0 to 30).
- Note: for your team only, like the reason.
Step 6: Test a PIN Code
The Test a PIN Code card shows exactly what a shopper would be offered: type a PIN Code, a Parcel Weight (g) and a Bag Value (₹) (after discounts), and press TEST. It shows the zone, whether the PIN is metro, each method with its price and days, COD or no COD, and any PIN rule that applies. If nothing is offered it says why, for example "No active delivery method has a rate for 1.5 kg here, so shoppers cannot order. Add a rate below." A PIN code not in India Post's list cannot be delivered to.
Step 7: Tick the Setup Guide
On Home, the setup guide's Check Your Delivery Charges step is ticked when you press I HAVE CHECKED.
Step 8: Connect a Courier (When You Are Ready)
Under Courier Accounts (Shiprocket and Shipway), connect your own Shiprocket or Shipway account to make labels, book pickups and track parcels from the admin. For Shiprocket you use an API user's email and password; for Shipway, your Shipway email and licence key. Tracking updates then reach the order page and the shopper's tracking page. See Ship With Shiprocket and Couriers. Without a courier account, ship any way you like and mark orders shipped by hand on the order page.
Good to Know
- Changes apply to the next bag a shopper opens. Orders already placed keep their delivery charge.
- Deleting a method deletes all its rates; deleting a zone sends its states back to "every other state" rates.
- Delivery charges are taxed by GST at checkout as your store's tax settings say. See Taxes.
Questions
How do I offer free delivery on every order?
Give each rate a Price (₹) of 0, or keep the free delivery a new store starts with. To make it free only above an amount, see Free Delivery Over an Amount.
Why will checkout not deliver to a shopper's PIN code?
Use Test a PIN Code with their PIN and the bag's weight. The answer names the cause: a PIN rule, no rate for that weight, or a PIN code India Post does not list.
Can I charge more for cash on delivery?
Yes, with Cash on Delivery Fee in Checkout and COD, separate from delivery.
