Indian e-commerce rules expect every online store to show its terms, a privacy policy, how shipping, returns, refunds and cancellations work, and how to reach a grievance officer. Mercayo writes all six for you from your store details and settings, so they match how your store really works. You read them, change anything that is not true for your business, and publish. All six must be published before you can launch.
The Six Policies
| Policy | What It Covers |
|---|---|
| Terms of Sale | Who sells, prices and payment, delivery, returns, liability, the courts for disputes |
| Privacy Policy | What shoppers' data you collect, why, who it is shared with (couriers, payment gateway), their rights |
| Shipping Policy | Where you deliver, days to dispatch, delivery times, charges, cash on delivery |
| Returns, Exchanges and Refunds | Your return window, items that cannot be returned, exchanges for a different variant, days to refund |
| Contact and Grievance | Customer care email, phone and hours; the grievance officer's name, role and contact |
| Cancellation Policy | Until when a shopper may cancel, and how |
Step 1: Complete Your Store Details First
The policies are written from Settings › Store Details: your legal name, address, customer care, grievance officer, days to dispatch, delivery time, days to refund, return window, cancel-until, items that cannot be returned and the courts' city. Until the needed details are filled in, the Policies screen says "Fill in your store details first. Still needed: …" with OPEN STORE DETAILS. See Store Details.
Step 2: Create Them
Open Settings › Store Policies (or OPEN POLICIES in the setup guide). The first time, it says No policies yet: "Create all six in one tap. They start as drafts, so nothing is shown to shoppers until you publish." Press CREATE MY POLICIES. "Your policies are ready. Read them, then publish."
Each policy then shows its status: Draft, Published or Not created, and Edited once you change its text.
Step 3: Read and Edit
Press EDIT on a policy. The Page Text is plain text with simple formatting: # for a heading, - for a list, ** around bold words.
- SAVE DRAFT keeps your changes without showing them.
- PUBLISH shows the page on your store.
- UNPUBLISH takes a published page down. Until all six are published again, the Launch screen lists the policies as not done.
If someone else changed the policy while you had it open, your save is refused ("Someone else changed this policy since you opened the page…"): reload, then make your change again.
Step 4: Publish All Six
PUBLISH ALL publishes every policy at once: "All your policies are published." The setup guide's Create Your Store Policies step and the Launch screen's policies item turn to done.
Keeping Them Up to Date
When you change your store details or settings later (a new return window, a new customer care phone), press REFRESH FROM MY DETAILS. It rewrites the policies you have not edited so they match your latest details and settings; the ones you edited are kept as you wrote them ("Updated. The ones you edited were kept.").
What Shoppers See
Published policies are pages on your store (/policies/…), linked from your store's footer. The contact and grievance page gives shoppers the grievance officer the law asks for.
Questions
Do I have to publish all six?
Yes, to launch. The Launch screen lists Create and Publish Your Store Policies until all six are published.
Can I write my own policies instead?
Yes. Edit each page and replace the text with your own, keeping the lines the law requires. Then publish.
My return window changed. Do I need to rewrite the returns policy?
If you have not edited it, press REFRESH FROM MY DETAILS after saving the new window in Store Details. If you have edited it, change the text yourself.
Where do shoppers find the policies?
In your store's footer, each at its own address under /policies/.
