Know Your Customers, Including the Ones Who Never Made an Account

In India many of your best customers never make an account; they order as guests with the same phone number. Mercayo counts them properly, shows each customer's whole history with you, and sorts them into segments you can act on.

In short

What It Does

Who is a customer: a shopper with an account, or a guest counted by phone number: every guest order with the same phone belongs to the same customer. A visitor who never ordered is not counted, and an unpaid online attempt does not make a customer.

The List

  • Segments as tabs with counts: New (first order within 30 days), Returning (two or more orders), VIP (spent at least ₹5,000), At Risk (returning, no order for 60 days), COD Only, and RTO-Prone (at least 30% of their orders came back undelivered). You change each rule in Settings.
  • Search by phone (typed any way), email or name; sort by last order, most spent, most orders, newest or name; filter by tag.
  • A summary: customers (and how many have an account), repeat buyers, spent and spent per buyer, average order, each explained.
  • EXPORT CSV (up to 10,000) for people allowed to export customers.

The Customer Page

  • Since when, contact details with Verified marks, marketing consent, account or guest, last signed in.
  • Their figures: orders, spent, average order, returned to origin (with a warning for RTO-prone customers), last order.
  • Their orders, saved and recent delivery addresses, store credit with GIVE CREDIT and TAKE BACK, rewards tier, referrals, gift cards, tags (up to 20) and internal notes, and a timeline of everything that happened.

Spending counts confirmed to delivered orders, never cancelled or returned ones, so a cash on delivery customer's spending is real money, not ₹0 and not inflated.

On the Customer Page

  • Orders: each with its date, items, payment and status, and ALL THEIR ORDERS to open the Orders list searched by their phone.
  • Timeline: orders placed, delivered, cancelled or returned, credit given, tier changes, notes and when the account was made, with a note box on top (notes stay inside the admin).
  • Contact: phone and email with Verified marks, account or guest, marketing consent, and when they last signed in.
  • Store credit: the balance and the last postings, with GIVE CREDIT and TAKE BACK in a dialog that asks for an amount and a reason and shows your cap.
  • Rewards, referrals and gift cards: their tier and its changes, their referral code and friends, and gift cards they bought or received.
  • Addresses: saved addresses, and the last places their orders were delivered.

On a phone the page becomes one column in the order a team member needs it: contact, orders, credit, tags, timeline.

For your store

Why It Matters

Knowing who your best and riskiest customers are changes how you treat them: a thank-you and an early offer for a VIP, a confirmation call before shipping a cash order to someone whose parcels keep coming back.

Counting guests by phone matters in India, where many repeat customers never sign in. Without it, your most loyal buyers would look like strangers.

Step by step

How It Works

  1. Open Customers

Use the segment tabs to see your VIPs, customers at risk, or those whose parcels often come back.

  2. Open a Customer

See their orders, spending, addresses, credit, rewards and timeline in one page.

  3. Act

Tag them, write a note for your team, give store credit with a reason, or open their orders.

  4. Tune the Segments

In Settings → Shopper Accounts → Customer Segments, change what counts as new, VIP, at risk and RTO-prone.

Mercayo

Mercayo's Controls

Who may see customers, edit them, give credit or export them is decided by your staff roles and checked by the database; exporting names, phones and emails is a separate right. Mercayo's team can fix the segment rules for a store with a reason your admin shows. Your customers are never visible to another store.

Good to Know Before You Start

  • Your own segments are built from the conditions offered (orders, spend, last and first order, COD orders, tag, city, state, PIN code, RFM group, email consent, account), not from products bought.
  • Email and SMS campaigns to a segment reach only the customers who agreed to them.
  • Customers are matched by account or phone; a guest who changes phone numbers appears as two customers.

Questions

About Customers

Can I see a customer's past addresses?

Yes: their saved addresses, and the latest three places their orders were delivered.

Can I segment by city or by product bought?

By city, yes: Customers → Segments → NEW SEGMENT has City, State and PIN Code among its conditions, beside orders, spend, tags and RFM groups. Products bought are not a condition; tag those customers, or export the list.

Why do guests appear as customers?

Because many shoppers order without an account. Every guest order with the same phone belongs to the same customer, so their history and spending are complete.

How is spending counted?

Orders from confirmed to delivered count; cancelled orders and parcels returned to origin do not.

Can my support staff export customers?

Only people whose role includes exporting customers. Others can see customers but not take the whole list away.

What is RTO-prone?

A customer for whom at least your chosen share of orders came back undelivered. Their orders and page carry a warning, useful before shipping cash on delivery.

Can I give a customer store credit?

Yes, from their page: GIVE CREDIT with an amount and a reason; the ledger keeps who gave it and why.
