Designs lets you start from the whole design of one of Mercayo's demo stores instead of a blank theme. Each design is a real demo store you can visit: its colours and fonts, how its header, menus, product cards, product page, bag and checkout look and open, the layouts of its pages, and the pictures those layouts use. Open it from Online Store › Designs in the side menu (on a phone: More, then Designs).
Choosing a Design
Every design shows a picture of the store on a computer and a phone, its name, the kind of store it was made for, its preset and colours, and how many page layouts and section styles it brings. Search by name, or tap a kind of store to see only those. Tap a design's picture (PREVIEW) to open the demo store in a new tab and look around as a shopper would.
A design is never tied to one kind of store: a jewellery design works for a store that sells clothes, and so on.
USE THIS DESIGN
USE THIS DESIGN first shows exactly what changes and what stays.
- What changes: your theme (the design's preset, colours, type, shapes and fonts), every section style, the page layouts it has (for example Home Page, Product Page, Bag Drawer, Checkout) and its pictures, which are copied into your Media.
- What stays: your products, orders and customers, settings, your own pages, menus, policies, and your logo and name. Your announcement bar keeps your own messages.
Parts of a design that showed the demo store's own collections or products show yours instead: picture tiles show your collections, a product rail shows your collections (or your newest products), a hand-picked rail shows your bestsellers. A section about one of the demo's own products, forms or markets is left out, and a link to one of the demo's pages goes to all your products. After the install, the design shows at the top of Designs with What changed to fit your store, page by page.
Installing a design needs the rights to edit and publish the theme and to change settings. The owner and admins have them; the Marketer preset role can look at the designs but not install one.
Sample Products and Pages
Before your store launches, USE THIS DESIGN also offers Also add the demo's sample products and pages: up to 12 of the demo's products with their pictures, categories and collections, and its pages your store does not have yet (About, FAQ…), so you can see the design working before you add your own. They are marked as sample data: DELETE SAMPLE DATA on Home removes all of them in one tap, and your store asks you to before it launches. A store that has launched, or that already has sample data, does not get the option.
Start from a Design When You Sign Up
When you create your store, the last step is Pick a Design to Start. Pick one (with its sample products, if you like) and tap USE THIS DESIGN, or tap SKIP FOR NOW to start from the standard look. A link to sign-up from a demo store's START WITH THIS DESIGN comes with that design already picked.
Undo
UNDO (on the design shown at the top) puts your theme, section styles and page layouts back to how they were before the install. A part you changed after the install stays as you left it, and the message names it. The pictures stay in Media. If you installed two designs, undo the later one first; then the earlier one can be undone too.
You can also put back one part on its own: the Theme editor's Earlier Looks keeps the look the design replaced, and each page's History in the page editor keeps the layout before it.
What Mercayo Can Change
Mercayo decides which demo stores are offered as designs and can turn design installs off for a store. When it has, Designs says so and shows the designs without USE THIS DESIGN.
