The AI Section Builder is a chat inside the page editor and the Theme editor. You ask for a change in plain words; it makes the change with your editor's own sections and settings and puts it in your draft, with KEEP and UNDO. Nothing goes live until you press PUBLISH.
It needs the right to edit the store's pages and theme (themes.edit): the owner, admins and the Marketer preset have it. A role without it does not see the button.
Open It
- Open Online Store › Editor (or Online Store › Theme).
- Press ASK AI in the top bar (on a phone, the sparkle button).
- The panel opens beside the preview (on a phone, as a sheet from the bottom with the preview above it). Its top line says your credits, for example "120 of 150 credits left this month".
The phone's Back button closes the panel; your conversation stays while the admin is open.
What It Can Do
| Request | When It Runs | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Change words, swap a photo, pick a scheme or a layout choice, move a section, show or hide it, show it only on phones or computers, translate a section | Straight away | 5 |
| Add one or more new sections ("add an FAQ about delivery and returns") | After you confirm the price | 15 |
| Draft a whole page ("redo the home page for Diwali") | After you confirm the price | 80 |
| A new look in the Theme editor ("make it feel luxurious") | After you confirm the price | 15 |
| A question ("what is the hero for?") or something it cannot do | Answered | Free |
It uses only your own products, collections, categories and photos (from the media library and product photos), and links to real pages of your store.
Confirm the Price of Bigger Work
When a request needs new sections, a whole page or a new design, a card titled A Bigger Change says what it takes and the price: "Building a new section takes more work. This uses 15 credits." (80 for a whole page). Press GO AHEAD to build it, or NOT NOW (no credits are used). Once built, the card says "Built. The change is below."
Keep or Undo a Change
Every change shows in the preview at once and as a card: Changed in Your Draft, a few lines saying what changed, Used 5 credits, and KEEP and UNDO.
- KEEP leaves the change in your draft (the card says "Kept in your draft.").
- UNDO puts the page back as it was before that one change; anything you changed since stays. The credits it used stay used.
- Each change has its own card, so you can undo the third change and keep the first two.
The editor's History lists each change as "name asked the AI: your words" and each undo as "undid an AI change".
In the Theme Editor
In Online Store › Theme, ASK AI changes this look's colours, fonts, shapes, cards, header and footer colours, layout and motion. Colours must stay readable: if you ask for a colour that makes buttons or words hard to read, it says so and suggests one that passes. Changes go into the Theme editor's draft; press SAVE to keep them as your look (or DISCARD). Sections Mercayo locked for your store are never changed.
What It Will Not Do
- It never publishes. You press PUBLISH yourself.
- It never writes code, HTML or CSS, and never adds a custom code section.
- It never invents a setting. If no section or setting can do what you asked, it says so plainly, offers the closest thing it can do, and notes the request for the product team ("This request is noted for the product team, so it can become a setting for every store."). Nothing is used.
- It works on your pages (home, content pages, product, collection, category and list pages, blog, 404) and the look; checkout, the bag, the header, the footer and the announcement bar are changed by hand.
- Text inside your pages, products or reviews can never give it instructions.
When It Stops
- No Credits Left: your credits are used up. TOP UP CREDITS opens Wallet. See AI Credits.
- Paused Until Next Month: the store's AI use reached Mercayo's monthly limit; it starts again on the 1st.
- The Page Changed: someone saved the page since. No credits were used; ask again.
- Please Wait a Little: many requests in an hour; try again in a few minutes.
On a Phone
The panel is a sheet from the bottom; the page's preview stays visible above it, so you see each change as it lands. Back closes the sheet first.
Settings
Settings › Admin Look and Dashboard › Assistants has AI section builder (on to start with). Off hides the button in both editors for everyone in your team.
Answers are written by Claude models from Anthropic, given your editor's sections and your own products, collections and photos. AI can be wrong: check the preview before you publish.
