Buy X Get Y
Buy X Get Y Offers in Every Shape
"Buy 2, get 1 free" is one of the oldest offers in retail because shoppers understand it at a glance. Mercayo lets you make it in every shape you need, and the bag does the counting.

In short
What It Does
A buy X get Y offer has two halves: what the shopper buys and what they get.
| Shape | Example |
|---|---|
| More of the same | "Buy 2, get 1 free", "Buy 3, pay for 2" |
| More of exactly the same item | "Buy 1, get 1 more of the same free", counted per product or per option |
| Items from another set | "Buy a case, get a grip at 50% off" |
| Bought by a spend | "Spend ₹999 on cases, get a grip free" |
What they get can be free, a percentage off or a price each. You choose which items are given: the lowest-priced ones (the usual way, so the shopper pays for the dearest), the highest-priced ones, or in the order of the bag. And you choose how often: as often as the bag allows, once, or up to a number of times per order, with an optional "up to ₹" cap on the saving.
What they buy is the offer's products, collections, categories, tags, brands or options, or any product when you choose none, less your exclusions; the same exclusions apply to what they get.
The items given must be in the bag: Mercayo never adds anything by itself. Instead the bag says what is missing, "Add 1 more and it's free.", with an ADD button that adds one more of the cheapest eligible item.
For your store
Why It Matters
A shopper who came for one item often leaves with three when the third is free. Buy X get Y moves more units per order, which matters when each parcel carries its own delivery cost, and clears stock without cutting the price on the product page.
The "another set" shape is how you introduce a second line: a case buyer meets your grips at half price, a saree buyer meets your blouse pieces.
It also stays clean for GST. The saving is shared over every item of the offer by value, so each item keeps a taxable value at its own rate (the admin cites CBIC circular 92/11/2019 for this way of sharing it); a setting puts the whole saving on the items given instead, if your accountant prefers that. The bag, the order and the invoice always agree to the paisa.
Step by step
How It Works
Choose Buy X Get Y
In Discounts → CREATE DISCOUNT, pick Buy X get Y under Value. It works as an automatic offer or as a code.
Say What the Customer Buys
Under Customer Buys, choose A number of items (Items to Buy) or A spend on them (Spend at Least, for another set only). Under What They Buy, pick the products, collections or categories that count; with nothing chosen, any product counts.
Say What They Get
Under Customer Gets, choose More of the same items or Items from another set (with its own pickers under What They Get), how many (Items They Get), and At: Free, A percentage off, or A price each.
Choose Which Items and How Often
Items Given: the lowest-priced ones, the highest-priced ones, or in the order of the bag. Count Items (for more of the same): across the chosen items (mix and match), per product, or per option. Times per Order: as often as the bag allows, once, or up to a number.
Show It on Product Pages
In On Product Pages, tick the box to show the offer as a row under Available Offers on the products it covers: "Buy 2, get 1 free", with its terms ("The lowest-priced items are the ones you get · Repeats as often as your bag allows"). On a product it gives, the row reads like "Get this at 50% off when you buy 1 from Phone Cases", with a link to shop the other set. You can write your own line instead.
Save and Check the Bag
The Summary reads the offer back ("Buy 2 (1 category), get 1 more free, repeating"), and the list's Offer column shows "Buy 2, get 1". Use Try a Bag to see it applied before you set it live.
Your shoppers
What Your Shoppers See
On a product page, shoppers see the offer as a row under Available Offers, and a short label such as "Buy 2 get 1 free" can appear on product cards. In the bag, the line given says so ("1 free", "1 at 50% off", "1 at ₹99"), and a line under the offers says what to add: "Add 1 more and it's free." with ADD, or "Your bag gets 1 from Grips & Wallets at 50% off. Add it to your bag." The drawer shows the nearest one; the bag page shows up to two.

Mercayo's Controls
Mercayo's team can switch buy X get Y off or on for your store, or fix how the saving sits on the invoice, with a reason your admin shows beside the locked setting and a record in Mercayo's audit log. With the feature switched off, saved offers stay visible in your list with a note and simply do not apply. Mercayo does not give tax advice: the invoice choice is yours and your accountant's.

Good to Know Before You Start
- The bag never adds the item given by itself, even a free one; it offers an ADD button or a link to the set.
- There is no "₹ off the item they get" mode: use a price each or a percentage off.
- A bag line that is partly inside the offer is taken whole, so no other product offer applies to the rest of that line.
- "In the order of the bag" follows the order lines appear in the bag, not the time each item was added.
Questions
About Buy X Get Y
Which item is free in "buy 2, get 1 free"?
By default the lowest-priced one, so the shopper pays for the two dearer items. You can give the highest-priced one instead, or follow the order of the bag.
Does it repeat for 6 items?
With As often as the bag allows, yes: 6 items in "buy 2, get 1 free" make two free items. Choose Once or Up to a number of times to cap it.
Can the free item be a different product?
Yes. Choose Items from another set and pick what they get. The item must be in the bag; the bag tells the shopper to add it, with ADD when it has a single option in stock.
How is GST worked out on a free item?
By default the saving is shared over every item of the offer by value, so each keeps a taxable value at its own rate. If your accountant prefers, switch Buy X Get Y on the Invoice to put the whole saving on the items given.
Can buy X get Y apply with another offer?
With order and delivery offers, yes, when the Combinations ticks allow it. An item gets one product offer at most, so a bundle and a buy X get Y on the same item compete and the bigger saving wins.
Can I make it a code instead?
Yes. Choose Discount code as the method. If the bag is short, the code box says what is missing, such as "Add 1 more item to use" the code.
