Shipping Profiles

Shipping Profiles: Own Rates for Heavy and Fragile Products

A cushion and a sofa should not cost the same to deliver. A shipping profile gives a group of products its own rates and extra handling days, while everything else keeps your general rates.

In short

What It Does

A profile has a name, extra handling days (0 to 30) and its own rates, the same shape as your general rates: a delivery method, a zone (or everywhere else), a weight band, a price and free above. A new profile starts with a copy of your general rates, so nothing stops delivering until you change them.

Put a product in a profile on its page (Organisation → Shipping Profile) or many at once from the products list (SHIPPING PROFILE, with UNDO).

How a Bag Is Priced

  1. Each product in the bag belongs to its profile, or to your general rates.
  2. A delivery method is offered only when every group in the bag has a rate for it, for that group's own weight. No Express rate in Heavy Items: no Express for a bag holding a heavy item.
  3. The price is the sum of each group's rate. Each group's free above is read against the whole bag's value after discounts, as your general rates are.
  4. Delivery days add the largest extra handling days of the bag's profiles.

Cash on delivery, PIN code rules, zones, discounts on delivery and GST on delivery work as before, on the summed price. A bag with no product in a profile is priced exactly as before. The product page answers by the product's own profile.

In Your Product Feeds and Test a PIN

Google and Meta's product feeds show a product in a profile with its profile's delivery price in India (your default method's rate for its weight) and its days plus the profile's extra days. In Test a PIN, choose Rates For a profile to see what a bag of its products is offered at a PIN code, with the dates a shopper would see.

For your store

Why It Matters

One flat rate either overcharges the small items or loses money on the big ones. Profiles let a furniture store charge for the wardrobe without charging for the cushion, a jeweller insure the necklace, and a pottery studio take a day longer for what must be packed by hand, without splitting the store.

Step by step

How It Works

  1. Add a Profile

In Settings → Delivery Rates and PIN Codes → Shipping Profiles, switch Shipping Profiles on, press ADD PROFILE, name it (Heavy Items) and give its extra handling days. Leave Start with a copy of the general rates ticked to begin from your own rates.

  2. Set Its Rates

Change, add or remove its rates with ADD RATE and EDIT: a method, where, a weight band, a price and free above. A method with no rate is named, because it is not offered for a bag holding these products.

  3. Choose Its Products

On a product's page choose its Shipping Profile and SAVE, or select many on the products list and press SHIPPING PROFILE. UNDO puts them back.

What Your Shoppers See

Shoppers see the right delivery price and the right days for their bag at checkout, the product page's delivery check answers by the product's own profile, and your ads on Google and Meta show the same price.

Good to Know Before You Start

  • Markets abroad use your general rates (a profile prices delivery in India).
  • A profile's free above is read against the whole bag's value, not that profile's items alone.
  • At most 20 profiles per store.

Questions

About Shipping Profiles

What happens when a bag mixes profiles?

Each group is priced on its own weight and the prices are added. A method is offered only when every group has a rate for it.

What if I remove a profile?

Its products go back to your general rates at once.

Does a profile change cash on delivery?

No. Your COD switch, limit, fee and PIN code rules apply to the bag as before.

Can a profile take longer to send?

Yes. Its extra handling days (0 to 30) are added to every delivery date of a bag holding it; the largest of the bag's profiles counts.
