Phone-First Checkout
A Checkout Built for a Thumb on a Phone
Most of your shoppers will check out on a phone, often with one hand. Mercayo's checkout asks for the mobile number first, fills the city and state from the PIN code, and keeps every price on the page adding up to the rupee.

In short
What It Does
Checkout is one page, in the order a shopper thinks:
- Contact. The 10-digit mobile number first (+91 is shown for them), then an optional email "for your order emails and GST invoice". A signed-in shopper sees "Signed in as" with their details already filled in.
- Delivery address. The PIN code comes first: Mercayo's PIN directory (the India Post list of 19,297 PIN codes) fills the city and shows the state, for example "Bengaluru, Karnataka". Then full name, flat or house or building, area or street (optional), an optional landmark, and Home, Work or Other. Signed-in shoppers pick one of their saved addresses instead, or "A new address".
- Delivery speed. When the PIN code has more than one delivery option, each shows its price and its dates.
- Payment. Cash on delivery and online payment, plus a gift card or store credit where the shopper has them. The cash on delivery rules (fee, limit, PIN codes, delivery options) show before anything is typed, with the plain reason when COD is not possible for this order.
- Gift and note. An optional gift message, gift wrap and the bag's order note.
- Price details. Every line of the bill: items (or MRP and the discount on MRP), each offer by name, delivery (or "Free"), the COD fee, gift wrap, GST where your prices do not include it, and the total. On phones, "Your Order · 1 item · ₹1,299" stays pinned under the header and opens the full bill.
The Summary Beside the Form
On a computer, the order summary sits in its own column beside the form: the lines with their pictures and an Edit bag link, your bundle progress and, if you choose, the same "Pairs well with" add-ons as the bag. Under the price details sit the helpful lines your offers allow: "Add ₹300 more to get 10% off", "Save ₹50 more when you pay online", or why an offer is not on this order ("WELCOME10 is for a first order only"). The summary scrolls on its own, and PLACE ORDER under it never scrolls away.
Totals You Can Trust
The total is worked out on Mercayo's server, not in the browser, and the order is placed only for the amount the shopper saw. If something changed in between (a price, an offer ending), the shopper is told the new total before anything is charged.
What the shopper pays is rounded to the whole rupee, with a small Round Off line (never more than 50 paise either way), while prices, offers and GST stay exact to the paisa on the invoice.
Three Layouts, One Flow
The same checkout comes in three layouts you choose in the Theme editor: One Page (every step on one page, the summary beside it), Steps (contact, delivery and payment one at a time, with a progress bar; going back keeps what was typed) and Accordion (each step folds once it is done, one open at a time). The fields, checks and totals are identical in all three.
For your store
Why It Matters
A checkout loses shoppers at every field that is hard to fill on a phone. Asking for the PIN code first and filling in the city and state saves typing and stops spelling mistakes in city names that send parcels astray. Putting the mobile number first matches how Indian shoppers expect to be reached, and how couriers call before they deliver.
Shoppers also need to trust the bill. Every rupee in the total is on its own line: delivery, the COD fee, gift wrap, GST and each offer by name. Nothing is added at the last step, and the shopper who pays cash knows the exact amount to keep ready.
And when something is wrong, the shopper sees exactly what: PLACE ORDER stays pressable, and pressing it with a field missing puts the error right under that field and moves the cursor there, instead of a greyed-out button nobody understands.
Step by step
How It Works
Shoppers Start With Their Mobile Number
A guest types the 10-digit mobile number (and, if they like, an email for the order emails and GST invoice). A signed-in shopper sees theirs filled in. If you ask for the COD confirmation code and keep Mobile code first on, the code is asked for right here, under the number. Where bag reminders are on, a short line tells the shopper that a reminder may follow if they do not finish, and that every reminder has a link to stop them.
The PIN Code Fills the Rest
The shopper types the 6-digit PIN code and sees "Looking up…" and then the city and state at once; a PIN code the directory does not know is pointed out under the field. Whether you deliver there, at what price and by when comes from your own delivery charges and PIN code rules, the same rules as everywhere else in the store. Name, house or building, an optional area and landmark, and Home, Work or Other complete the address.
They Choose How Fast
With more than one delivery option for the PIN code, the shopper chooses, each option with its price and dates such as "Arrives Tue, 20 Oct – Thu, 22 Oct". The price details change at once to the chosen option. See delivery options at checkout.
They Pay the Way They Like
Cash on delivery, or UPI, cards and net banking through your own Razorpay account, with a gift card or store credit on top where they have one. If an offer is only for online payment, the cash option says how much paying online would save. See online payments and cash on delivery.
Gift, Note and a Business Invoice
"This order is a gift" opens a message, hides the cash amount on the packing slip and offers gift wrap if you sell it (see gift options). The order note from the bag can be added or changed here. "Buying for a business?" opens the GSTIN and the business's legal name, checked as they are typed, for a B2B invoice.
PLACE ORDER Says What Is Missing
Pressing PLACE ORDER checks every field. Each problem is shown under its own field ("Enter a 6-digit PIN code", "Enter the name for delivery"), the first one is focused, and "Please check the 2 highlighted fields" sits above the button. A problem the server finds (a GSTIN from another state, a PIN code it cannot deliver to) is shown under its field too.
The Order Is Placed at the Price They Saw
The server prices the bag again, places the order with its stock held, and opens payment where needed. The button says what is happening ("PLACING ORDER…", "OPENING PAYMENT…"). The shopper lands on the thank-you page, and the order is in your admin at once.

Your shoppers
What Your Shoppers See
A short page that knows them: the mobile number first, the city and state filled in from the PIN code, their saved addresses if they are signed in, and a bill where every rupee has a name. On a phone the total is always visible at the top and PLACE ORDER is always in reach at the bottom, in a bar that follows them while they fill in the form.
Settings
Settings You Control
Each one is in your admin. A new store starts with the value shown.
Mercayo
Mercayo's Controls
Each checkout setting can be fixed or limited by Mercayo for one store, with a reason your admin shows beside the locked setting; every such change is in Mercayo's audit log. The effective value is Mercayo's override if there is one, then your setting, then the default. The checkout itself is the same tested flow for every store: the server prices every bag, so no store's checkout can be tricked into a wrong total by a changed web page. Checkout pages are never kept in the page cache, so a shopper never sees another shopper's details. Mercayo never sees card or UPI details: they are typed into Razorpay's own window.

Good to Know Before You Start
- Delivery abroad needs Sell Abroad switched on in Settings → Markets; without it, checkout takes Indian PIN codes only.
- A business's legal name is typed by the shopper; it is not looked up on the GST portal, and the GSTIN must be from the delivery address's state.
- Delivery dates count Monday to Saturday from today; there is no cut-off hour or holiday calendar, and checkout's dates do not add your dispatch days.
- Checkout asks for a mobile number on every order; there is no email-only checkout.
- Discount codes are typed in the bag, not on the checkout page; checkout shows the codes already on the bag.
Questions
About Phone-First Checkout
Can shoppers check out without an account?
Yes. Guest checkout is always possible, whatever your shopper account settings. A guest who later signs in with the same verified phone number finds the order in their account, and the thank-you page can invite them to do so.
Where do the city and state come from?
From the PIN code, through Mercayo's PIN directory, which holds the India Post list of 19,297 PIN codes. The shopper does not choose the state, and the city is filled in for them. Whether you deliver to that PIN code, and for how much, comes from your own delivery settings.
Why is there a Round Off line?
So shoppers pay whole rupees, online and in cash, while your prices, offers and GST stay exact. The line is never more than 50 paise either way, it is never taxed, and the invoice shows it below the taxes. A full refund gives it back with the last items. You can switch it off.
Can I change how checkout looks?
Yes. Choose one page, steps or an accordion in Online Store → Theme → Section Styles; your theme's fonts, colours and button shape apply. The fields and the order of the parts stay the same, because they are what makes checkout quick.
What if a price changes while the shopper is on the page?
The server prices the bag again when the order is placed. If the total changed, the shopper is told the new total before anything is charged, and nothing is placed until they agree.
Does checkout work for a business buyer who needs a GST invoice?
Yes. "Buying for a business?" opens fields for the GSTIN and the business name, checked as they are typed, with an optional billing address. The GSTIN must belong to the state of the delivery address, and the shopper is told which state it is from. See B2B invoices.
Where do shoppers type a discount code?
In the bag, with the DISCOUNT CODE button, or through a link with ?code=WORD. Checkout shows the codes already on the bag and every offer by name in the price details. See bag and bag drawer.
