Abandoned Bag Reminders

Bring Shoppers Back to the Bag They Left

Many shoppers reach checkout and get distracted. A friendly reminder with a link back to their bag brings some of them back, and Mercayo counts the sales it recovers.

In short

What It Does

Who Is Reminded

Only shoppers who reached checkout, typed a valid phone or email, and did not order. Checkout records the contact as soon as it is typed and, with reminders on, tells the shopper: "If you do not finish your order, we may send you a reminder about your bag. Every reminder has a link to stop them."

A bag is reminded only while something in it is still on sale. Nobody who ordered meanwhile is reminded: any order in your store with that phone or email since the bag began stops the reminders, and an order placed later cancels any reminder already queued, at once. Nobody gets the same reminder twice for a bag, and the steps never go backwards. Nobody who pressed "stop these messages" is reminded again by your store.

What They Get

Up to three reminders (one hour, one day and three days after the shopper last changed the bag, to start with; set any to 0 to skip it), each with:

  • a RESTORE MY BAG link that puts the bag's items into a bag on whichever phone or computer opens it, for 7 days (items already there keep the larger quantity, and items no longer sold are left out);
  • optionally your code (for example COMEBACK10), left out automatically if the code has ended or is switched off;
  • a link to stop these messages, honoured for your store; order updates still reach the shopper.

The link copies the items rather than reopening the original bag, so a forwarded email or a mail scanner gets nothing more than the items the email already showed.

Quiet hours: nothing goes between 9 pm and 9 am India time to start with; a reminder due at night waits for the morning, and the checks run again then. If several steps fall due together, only the latest goes and the others are recorded as skipped, so nobody gets two messages at once.

The Abandoned Bags Screen

Orders → Abandoned Bags shows, for the period you choose (30 days to start with, compared with the period before it):

FigureWhat It Counts
Abandoned BagsBags that reached checkout with a phone or email and had no order within your abandoned time (60 minutes to start with), with how many were reminded
Value LeftThe items still in those bags, at today's prices
RecoveredBags whose shopper ordered within your recovery window: from the bag, from a reminder's link, or with the same phone or email
Recovered SalesWhat the recovered orders came to (the orders' totals, not the bags' value), and how many came after a reminder

Tabs (All, Not Recovered, Reminded, Recovered) and a search by phone, email or name list each bag with its shopper, items, value, when it reached checkout, its reminders and its status. Open one to see every reminder with what happened to it (sent, delivered, not sent because they ordered or asked not to be reminded) and the order it came back as. Cancelled orders and unpaid online payments never count as recovered.

Reminders go by email, on WhatsApp, or both, with your store's name, picture and a COMPLETE MY ORDER button on WhatsApp. WhatsApp reminders are WhatsApp Marketing: included on Growth and Scale, an add-on on Starter.

For your store

Why It Matters

A shopper who reached checkout wanted the product. Often the phone rang, the UPI app took too long, or they wanted to ask someone first. A reminder an hour later, with their items ready to finish, is one of the cheapest sales you will make, and a code in the reminders can tip the hesitant.

Quiet hours and a stop link keep the reminders polite, which protects your brand: a message at 11 pm or a fourth reminder nobody asked for is how a store gets marked as spam.

And because recovered sales are counted from real orders that were not cancelled, with the orders' own totals, the screen tells you honestly what the reminders brought back, not a hopeful sum of bag values.

Step by step

How It Works

  1. Switch On Reminders

In Settings → Bag Reminders, switch on Bag reminders. Until you do, bags are still listed in Abandoned Bags, with a banner saying nobody is reminded.

  2. Set the Timing

Choose when each of the three reminders goes, in minutes after the shopper's last change to the bag (60, 1,440 and 4,320 to start with; up to 10,080, a week), or 0 to skip one. Set your Quiet from and Quiet until hours, India time; the same hour for both means no quiet hours.

  3. Choose the Channel

Send reminders by Email, WhatsApp or both. A WhatsApp reminder goes only to numbers that joined your list or said yes to WhatsApp; a bag with only an email gets the email.

  4. Add a Code

Name a discount code from Discounts in Code to offer to mention in reminders, for example a small first-order code. If the code ends or you switch it off, reminders simply leave it out.

  5. Decide How the Screen Counts

A bag counts as abandoned after (60 minutes to start with) and Count an order as recovered within (7 days) change only how Abandoned Bags counts; the reminders keep their own timing.

  6. Watch What Comes Back

Orders → Abandoned Bags shows each bag, its reminders and whether it was recovered, with the period's figures at the top. The How Reminders Go Out card sums up your steps, channel, code and how many shoppers asked not to be reminded.

Your shoppers

What Your Shoppers See

An email from your store, an hour or so after leaving, with their bag's items and a RESTORE MY BAG button that puts the same items back in a bag, on any device, and a link to stop these messages. Nothing arrives at night, nothing arrives after they ordered, and stopping takes one tap: "You will not get any more bag reminders. Order updates still reach you."

Mercayo

Mercayo's Controls

Mercayo's team can switch reminders off for a store or turn steps off, with a reason your admin shows; every change is in Mercayo's audit log, and the effective value is Mercayo's override, then your setting, then the default. Demo stores never send reminders. Reminders are marketing messages: each one sent is paid from your message wallet, never from your plan's included messages, and a message that cannot be paid is not sent. The stop list is kept per store, as scrambled phone numbers and emails.

Limits today

Good to Know Before You Start

  • Only shoppers who gave a phone or email at checkout can be reminded.
  • WhatsApp reminders need WhatsApp Marketing (included on Growth and Scale, an add-on on Starter) and go only to numbers that said yes.
  • The three steps share one channel setting; a code is one for all steps.
  • The restore link works for 7 days; after that the shopper is told the link has expired.
  • There is no button to send a reminder by hand from Abandoned Bags.

Questions

About Abandoned Bag Reminders

Will a shopper who already ordered get a reminder?

No. Before each reminder is queued, Mercayo checks for any order in your store from the same phone or email since the bag began, and stops. An order placed after a reminder was queued cancels it at once, so the check also holds just before sending.

Does the link work on another phone?

Yes. RESTORE MY BAG puts the bag's items into a bag on whichever device opens it, for 7 days. It copies the items rather than handing over the original bag, so a forwarded email gives nobody more than the items it already showed.

How is a recovered sale counted?

A later order from the same bag, from a reminder's link, or with the same phone or email, placed within your recovery window (7 days to start with), counts as recovered, unless it was cancelled or is an unpaid online payment. Recovered sales are the orders' totals.

Can shoppers stop the reminders?

Yes, every reminder has a stop link, honoured for your store. It also cancels reminders already queued. Order updates still reach them, and the Abandoned Bags screen counts how many asked not to be reminded.

Do bags show in the list even with reminders off?

Yes. Abandoned Bags lists every bag that reached checkout with a contact and no order, so you can see what is being left behind before you decide to send reminders.

What if several reminders fall due at once?

This can happen when a reminder was held by your quiet hours or by a pause in sending. Only the latest due reminder goes, and the earlier ones are recorded as skipped. A shopper never gets two reminders at once, and never an older step after a newer one.

Is there sample data to look at?

Kosha, a demo store, has sample abandoned bags over recent weeks, some reminded and some recovered by demo orders, registered as sample data. Demo stores never send real reminders.
