In short
What It Does
With online payments on, the ways to pay at checkout include everything your Razorpay account offers: UPI (including UPI apps on the shopper's phone), cards, net banking and wallets. At checkout the option reads "Pay online (UPI, cards, netbanking)" with the exact amount once the PIN code is in, and PLACE ORDER shows what will be paid now.
How a Payment Works, Step by Step on the Server
- When the shopper places the order, it is created as waiting for payment, with its stock held so nobody else can buy the last piece.
- Mercayo asks Razorpay to open a payment for exactly the order's total, in paise. The browser cannot change the amount.
- The payment is confirmed only by the server, in two independent ways: the payment's own signature, and Razorpay's webhook. Whichever comes first confirms the order and commits the stock; the second changes nothing.
- If the shopper does not finish paying, the checkout says "Payment not completed" and "Your order is kept for 30 minutes", with PAY NOW to try again. You choose how long it waits (30 minutes to start with). After that, the order is cancelled and its stock and any discount use go back.
Paying Online With Other Tenders
A shopper can put a gift card or their store credit towards the order first; what is left is paid online. When a balance pays only part, it pays whole rupees, so the amount left for UPI or card stays a whole number. When it pays everything, no payment window opens at all.
Refunds
Refunds start from the order page in your admin. The refund dialog takes the whole order or chosen items, or a custom amount, and sends the money to one of three places: the original payment (through Razorpay, at least ₹1), store credit (no bank details needed), or cash or bank transfer that you pay yourself and Mercayo records. Every payment and refund keeps Razorpay's own ids, and the GST invoice prints how the order was paid.
Online payments are also what makes part payment for COD possible, and what lets you run offers "for online payment only".

Why It Matters
Prepaid orders are the easiest orders you will ever ship: no cash to collect, no parcel refused at the door, no money waiting with a courier for days. Many Indian shoppers already prefer UPI for everyday buying, and they expect to see it at checkout.
Because the money goes to your own Razorpay account, you keep your own settlement terms, your own fees with Razorpay and your own records. Mercayo charges no fee on orders, online or cash.
Because every payment is confirmed on the server, a shopper who closes the window at the wrong moment still gets their order confirmed when Razorpay's webhook arrives, and a fake "paid" message from a browser is never believed. And because an unpaid order holds its stock only for the time you choose, an abandoned payment never keeps your last piece away from the next shopper for long.
Finally, a refund that goes back to the way the shopper paid, recorded on the order with its credit note, is the kind of after-sales care that brings people back.

How It Works
Connect Your Razorpay Account
In Settings → Payments, enter your Razorpay key id and key secret (from Account & Settings → API Keys in your Razorpay Dashboard) and press CONNECT RAZORPAY. Test keys come first if you like: no real money moves. Mercayo stores the secret encrypted, never shows it again, makes the webhook secret for your store and shows the webhook address to add in Razorpay. See Razorpay for the details.
Switch On Online Payments
In Settings → Checkout and COD → Online Payments, switch on Online payments and choose the Time to pay: how long a shopper has to finish paying before the order is cancelled (30 minutes to start with, from 10 minutes to 24 hours).
Shoppers Pay in Razorpay's Window
At checkout, the shopper picks paying online and places the order. The button reads "OPENING PAYMENT…", and Razorpay's payment window opens for the exact total, with UPI, cards, net banking and wallets as your account allows.
The Server Confirms the Payment
The payment's signature and Razorpay's webhook are both checked on Mercayo's server ("CONFIRMING PAYMENT…"). The first to arrive confirms the order and commits its stock. The shopper sees the thank-you page with "Paid ₹1,299 online"; the order appears in your admin as paid, and your order alerts go out when the payment arrives.
A Missed Payment Gets a Second Chance
If the shopper closes the window or the payment fails, checkout keeps the order for your time to pay and offers PAY NOW. If money was taken but the answer was lost, the webhook confirms the order on its own. If nothing arrives in time, the order is cancelled and its stock, offers and codes go back.
Refund From the Order When You Need To
On the order page, REFUND opens the refund dialog: the whole order, chosen items or a custom amount, to the original payment through Razorpay, to store credit, or recorded as cash or a bank transfer. The order's history records who refunded, how much and why, and a refund of items comes with its credit note.

What Your Shoppers See
Shoppers choose "Pay online" at checkout and finish in Razorpay's familiar window: UPI apps, cards, net banking or wallets. The amount they pay is the total they saw, in whole rupees. If they close it by mistake, PAY NOW lets them try again while the order waits, and the page says how long it is kept. The thank-you page and the order email show the order as paid, and a cancelled paid order's money goes back the way they paid.

Mercayo
Mercayo's Controls
Mercayo's team can switch online payments off for a store (for example while it is under review), or limit the time to pay, always with a reason shown in your admin and kept in Mercayo's audit log. Mercayo never sees card numbers or UPI details: the shopper types them into Razorpay's own window, which your store opens only on the checkout page. Your Razorpay key secret and webhook secret are stored encrypted with a key kept outside the database, and no screen ever shows them again. Mercayo takes no commission on your orders.
Limits today
Good to Know Before You Start
- Razorpay is the payment provider today; other gateways are not connected.
- Which methods show (UPI, cards, wallets) is decided in your Razorpay account, not in Mercayo.
- There are no offers tied to one payment method (for example "10% off with UPI"); offers can be limited to online or cash payments.
- UPI intent buttons for single apps (open PhonePe or Google Pay directly) are not built; Razorpay's window lists them.
- Razorpay refunds at least ₹1; a smaller amount can be given as store credit.
Questions
About Online Payments
Does the money go to Mercayo first?
No. It goes straight from the shopper to your own Razorpay account, and Razorpay settles it to your bank on your terms. Mercayo never holds your money and takes no share of orders.
What happens if the shopper closes the payment window?
The order waits, with its stock held, for your time to pay (30 minutes to start with), and checkout tells the shopper how long it is kept. They can press PAY NOW to try again. If they do not, the order is cancelled and its stock and discount use go back.
What if the shopper paid but their phone lost the connection?
Razorpay's webhook reaches Mercayo's server on its own and confirms the order, even if the shopper's browser never came back. The shopper is told that if money was taken, it will show shortly.
Can I refund part of an order?
Yes. The refund dialog on the order page takes the whole order, chosen items or a custom amount, and sends it back to the original payment through Razorpay, to the shopper's store credit, or records a cash or bank refund you make yourself.
Can I test payments before launch?
Yes. Enter your Razorpay test-mode keys first: Settings → Payments shows the mode, and no real money moves. Place test orders, then replace the keys with your live ones using REPLACE KEYS.
Can I offer only online payments?
Yes. Switch off cash on delivery in Settings → Checkout and COD, and only online payments remain. You can also keep COD but make a delivery option prepaid only.
Does a shopper who cancels a paid order get their money back?
Within your cancel window and before a courier label is made, the shopper can cancel from the thank-you or order page. The order is cancelled at once and its online payment is marked for a refund, which your team makes from the order page.
