Mercayo's storefront keeps a ready copy of each page so your store opens fast, but that copy is never allowed to hide a change: every saved change that shoppers can see makes all of your store's older copies unusable at once, and the pages are rebuilt within moments. So when your store looks unchanged, check whether the change has reached the live store (a draft, an unsaved editor, a product that is not active) and whether you are looking at a different version of the page. This page goes through each case.
Symptoms
- You saved a change, but your store still shows the old text, picture, price or layout.
- A new product does not appear in its collection, in search or in the menu.
- The page editor or Theme editor shows Unsaved changes or Unpublished Changes.
- The Hindi (or another language's) page still shows the old words.
- The admin says "Someone saved the theme after you opened it. Reload to see their changes, then make yours again."
Causes and Fixes
The Change Is Saved but Not Published
Page layouts made in the page editor have a draft and a published version. "Visitors see the published layout. Your changes stay private until you publish." Saving the draft changes nothing on your store.
How to check: in the page editor, look for Unpublished Changes or a Draft marker.
How to fix: press PUBLISH. "Your changes go live on the store at once." If publishing is refused:
- "This Layout Cannot Be Published Yet": "Fix the sections marked with a warning first."
- "You can edit this layout, but publishing needs another right. Ask the store owner."
Drafts, publishing and rights are explained in Page Editor.
The Theme Editor Was Not Saved
In the Theme editor, changes show on the preview first. The bar reads Unsaved changes until you save; a preset or an earlier look you picked is only on the preview ("… is on the preview. Save to show it on your store."). After SAVE: "Theme saved. Your store shows it now."
If saving says "Someone saved the theme after you opened it. Reload to see their changes, then make yours again.", a colleague saved in between. Reload the page and make your change again, so neither of you overwrites the other.
The Product Is Not Active
A product's Visibility decides whether it is on the store: "Only active products are on the store." Draft and Archived products are not in lists, search or menus, and their address shows "not found". New products, products copied with Duplicate, and products imported with New Products Start As set to Draft all start as drafts.
How to fix: open the product, set Visibility to Active and press SAVE. See Product Editor.
The Editor Still Has Unsaved Changes
The product editor and most settings pages keep your edits on your screen until you save. While something differs from the saved version, a bar shows Unsaved changes with DISCARD and SAVE. Closing the tab without saving loses them.
Fix: press SAVE and wait for the bar to go away, then look at your store. If saving shows an error (a field marked in red), fix it and save again.
A Menu Item Points at Something Hidden
"An item that points at something unpublished or deleted is not shown to shoppers." A menu link to a draft product, an unpublished page or a deleted collection simply does not appear. Make the target active or published, or point the item at something else. See Menus.
You Are Looking at Another Language
Each language has its own address (for example /hi/ for Hindi). Changing a product's English title does not change its Hindi translation; the translation keeps the words it had. On the Translate screen such an item shows Out of Date ("The original changed after this was translated: check it still says the same.").
Fix: update the translation, or open the page in your main language to see the change.
The Word Is a Store Text or a Locked Text
The buttons, labels and messages your store shows come from Localization: your store's own text wins over Mercayo's. If you changed a word in the theme but the store shows another, a store text for the same place may be set there. Some texts are locked ("Only Mercayo can change this text: it is legal, money or security wording, or an approved message.") and cannot be changed by you.
A Setting Is Locked by Mercayo
Any setting can be set or held in a range for your store by Mercayo. A locked setting shows Locked with Mercayo's note, and your change does not apply. Write to support if you need it changed.
You Are on the Opening-Soon Page
Before you launch, visitors see an opening-soon page and, by default, need your password. A browser that has not entered the password sees that page, not your changes. Enter the password, or use the Theme editor's or page editor's live preview. See Launch Your Store.
The Change Depends on Time
Some things change by the clock, and Mercayo rebuilds those pages at that moment:
- An offer with a start or end time shows from its start and stops at its end, in India time. A sale set to start tomorrow does not show today.
- The Bestselling order counts the units sold in the last 30 days and is worked out once a night, so today's orders move it tomorrow.
- Stock changes a page only when an item goes in or out of stock, not with every order.
A Short Problem on Mercayo's Side
If Mercayo's servers cannot build a page for a moment, your store shows the last good copy of it instead of an error, so shoppers can keep shopping. Your change appears as soon as the page can be built again, without you doing anything. If it lasts more than a few minutes, write to support.
How to Check What Shoppers See
- Make sure the change is saved (and published, for page layouts).
- Open your store in a private (incognito) window, so you see it as a new shopper does, with no bag or sign-in.
- Open the exact page you changed, in your store's main language.
- If it still looks old, reload the page once. Mercayo never tells browsers to keep an old copy of a page, so one reload always asks for the latest version.
Still Stuck?
Open Help from your account menu and write to Mercayo's team. Include your store's handle, the page address that looks old, what you changed and where in the admin, when you saved it, and a screenshot of both the admin and the store. See Contact Mercayo Support.
Questions
Do I need to clear a cache after a change?
No. Every saved change that shoppers can see replaces your store's ready copies by itself. There is no cache button because none is needed.
How fast does a change show?
Normally within moments of saving or publishing. Changes that depend on a time (an offer's start, the night's bestseller order) show at that time.
Why does my new product not show in its collection?
Check that it is Active and that it is really in the collection (on the product's Organisation card). Draft products are never listed.
My phone shows the old page but my computer shows the new one. Why?
The phone may be showing a page that was open before the change. Reload it, or close the tab and open the store again.
Can I preview a change before shoppers see it?
Yes. The page editor and the Theme editor show a live preview, and the page editor can make a share link: "Anyone with this link can see your unpublished changes for 24 hours, without signing in."
