Business Accounts

Sell to businesses as well as shoppers. Businesses apply for a trade account with their GSTIN, you approve each one, set its payment terms, credit limit and prices, and its people buy at those prices.

A business account lets a company buy from your store at its own prices, in bulk, on credit if you allow it. Each business is checked and approved by you, and several of its people can buy for it, each with their own sign-in.

B2B selling is part of the Growth, Scale and Marketplace plans, and an add-on on Starter. Once your plan has it, turn on Business Buyers in the settings at the foot of Customers › Businesses. Until then, nothing about it shows in your store.

How a Business Applies

  1. A signed-in shopper opens My Account › Business, or your store's trade accounts page at /business, and chooses APPLY.
  2. They give the business's legal name, its trade name, its GSTIN, its address, and a line about what they do.
  3. Mercayo checks the GSTIN as they type: its check character, and that its state is the address's state. One GSTIN has one account in your store.
  4. The application shows on Customers › Businesses under Pending, and your team gets an email.

If you turn off Ask for a GSTIN, businesses not registered for GST can apply too. With Approve Applications Automatically on, every business with a valid GSTIN is approved at once.

Approving a Business

Open the business to see its application, its details with the GSTIN check, and what it told you.

  • APPROVE asks for its Payment Terms (pays at checkout, or net 7, 15 or 30 days), its Credit Limit, its Customer Group (which sets its prices, see Price Lists) and an optional message. The business is emailed that its account is ready.
  • REJECT needs a reason. The business sees it and may change its details and apply again.
  • SUSPEND stops the business buying at its prices; REINSTATE brings it back.

ADD BUSINESS on the list adds a business you already know, approved at once, with its first person invited.

People in a Business

Each business has one or more people, each signing in with their own email or mobile number:

  • An Approver runs the account: invites and removes people, accepts quotes and orders on credit.
  • A Buyer orders at the business's prices and asks for quotes. Buyers order on credit only when Buyers Can Order on Credit is on for that business.

Approvers invite people from their account, and you can INVITE from the business's page: by email (the link is emailed) or by mobile (you get a link to share on WhatsApp). An invitation works once, for 14 days. A business always keeps at least one approver.

What a Business Buyer Gets

Once approved, its people see My Account › Business with Overview, Quick Order, Quotes and Statement:

  • your products at their price list's prices, on cards, product pages and in the bag, with your own price struck through;
  • Quick Order: find items by SKU or name, paste or upload a list of SKUs and quantities, and ADD ALL TO BAG, or REORDER a past order;
  • bags of up to 9,999 of an item and 200 items;
  • REQUEST A QUOTE from the bag (see Quotes);
  • Pay Later at checkout when the business has terms (see Credit and Dues), and a PO number on the order;
  • the business's GSTIN, legal name and address on its GST invoices.

Who Sees Your Catalogue

Who Sees Your Catalogue decides what everyone else sees:

  • Everyone: a normal store; business buyers simply see their own prices.
  • Prices for approved buyers: everyone sees your products, but prices and ordering are for approved business buyers only.
  • Products for approved buyers: only approved business buyers see your products at all.

Minimum Quantities and Packs

On each product's page in the admin, the Minimum Quantities card sets a minimum order and a pack size, for the product or for each variant. By default they apply to business buyers only; Minimum Quantities Apply To can make them apply to every shopper.
