In short
What It Does
Settings → Payments connects Razorpay:
- In your Razorpay Dashboard, open Account & Settings → API Keys and generate a key.
- Paste the Key ID and Key Secret. Test or live is read from the key id (rzp_test_ or rzp_live_): start with test keys to try payments without real money, then replace them with live keys.
- Mercayo creates a webhook secret for your store and shows the webhook address to add in Razorpay, so payments are confirmed even when a shopper's phone loses the connection.
- The key secret and webhook secret are sealed (encrypted, bound to your store) and never shown again. The screen shows the key id with its middle hidden, the mode (test: no real money moves; live: real payments), the webhook address and when it was connected.
Then switch on Online payments in Settings → Checkout and COD. Online payment is offered at checkout only while the switch is on and a Razorpay account is connected. From then on, see online payments for what shoppers see.
What Runs Through Your Account

Each payment and refund keeps Razorpay's ids and the payment method, so you can match them with your Razorpay Dashboard and settle a dispute.
Disconnecting and Replacing
DISCONNECT stops online payments at once; payments already confirmed stay as they are (remove Mercayo's webhook in Razorpay too). REPLACE KEYS connects again with new keys, such as when you move from test to live, and makes a new webhook secret to update in Razorpay.

Why It Matters
Your own Razorpay account means your own settlement cycle, your own pricing with Razorpay, and your own dashboard for disputes and payouts. Mercayo charges no fee on orders and never stands between you and your money.
UPI is how most Indian shoppers pay online today, and Razorpay's window brings UPI apps, cards, net banking and wallets together in one familiar place. Prepaid orders are the ones that do not come back unpaid at the door, so a smooth online payment is also your best defence against COD returns, and the base for part payment on cash orders.
Test keys first mean you can place real test orders through your store before a single rupee moves. And because payments are confirmed by Razorpay's server talking to Mercayo's, a shopper whose network drops on a train between paying and returning to your store still gets a confirmed order.
Step by step
How It Works
Generate Keys in Razorpay
In the Razorpay Dashboard, open Account & Settings → API Keys and generate a key. Use test mode first: test keys start with rzp_test_ and move no real money. Keep the Key Secret Razorpay shows you to hand for the next step.
Paste Them in Mercayo
In Settings → Payments, paste the Key ID and Key Secret and press CONNECT RAZORPAY (or CONNECT LIVE ACCOUNT for live keys). The shape of each is checked before saving; a key id that does not start with rzp_test_ or rzp_live_, or looks cut short, is pointed out. The secret is sealed at once.
Add the Webhook in Razorpay
The Finish in Razorpay card shows the Webhook URL and a Webhook secret made for your store. In Razorpay, open Settings → Webhooks → Add New Webhook, paste both, tick payment.captured and order.paid under Active Events, and save. Then press DONE, I HAVE ADDED IT. The secret is shown only this once.
Switch On Online Payments
In Settings → Checkout and COD → Online Payments, switch them on, and check the Time to pay: how many minutes a shopper has to finish paying before the order is cancelled and its stock goes back.
Place a Test Order
With test keys, place an order in your own store and pay with one of Razorpay's test methods. The order should arrive in your admin as paid and confirmed. Try a refund on it from the order, too.
Go Live
When you are happy, generate live keys in Razorpay and use REPLACE KEYS to connect them, then update the webhook in Razorpay with the new secret. The screen's Mode changes to live: real payments.

What Your Shoppers See
Shoppers see Razorpay's familiar payment window at checkout, with UPI, cards, net banking and wallets, for exactly the total they saw. If they close it or the payment fails, they can try again until the time to pay runs out; once paid, they land on your thank-you page with the order confirmed.

Mercayo's Controls
Connecting payment keys needs the Change payment settings permission: the owner and admins hold it, and you can give it to a role. It is withheld from Mercayo's support sessions unless Mercayo's owner allows it for one session. Mercayo's team can switch online payments off for a store (for example while it is under review), or set its time to pay, with a reason your admin shows. Your secrets are sealed with a key kept outside the database; no screen shows them to anyone. Mercayo never sees card or UPI details: shoppers type them into Razorpay's own window.

Good to Know Before You Start
- Razorpay is the one payment provider today.
- Each store connects its own account; Mercayo does not offer a shared or marketplace account.
- Which payment methods show is set in your Razorpay account.
- Keys are checked by their shape when you connect, not with Razorpay: a test order is how you confirm they work.
- Disputes, chargebacks and payouts are handled in your Razorpay Dashboard.
Questions
About Razorpay
Do I need a Razorpay account before I sign up?
No. You can build your store first and connect Razorpay before launch. Cash on delivery works without it, so you can even launch with COD only and add online payments when your Razorpay account is approved.
Can I test without real money?
Yes. Connect test keys first; payments are pretend and the screen shows the mode as test. Replace them with live keys when you are ready, and update the webhook secret in Razorpay.
What does the webhook do?
Razorpay tells Mercayo's server directly when a payment succeeds, so the order is confirmed even if the shopper's browser never returns. Each notice is checked against your store's webhook secret, so a fake one changes nothing.
Can my staff see the key secret?
No one can: it is sealed and never shown again, to anyone. Only people whose role includes Change payment settings can connect, replace or disconnect keys, and each change is in your activity log.
Does Mercayo take a cut of my payments?
No. Payments settle from Razorpay to your bank account on your Razorpay terms. Mercayo charges no fee on orders; Razorpay's own fees are between you and Razorpay.
How do refunds work?
From the order in your admin, refund in full or in part. Mercayo works out what can be refunded, sends it through your Razorpay account, and records Razorpay's answer. If Razorpay says no, nothing moved and you can try again.
What if I lose the webhook secret?
It is shown only once. Use REPLACE KEYS to connect again: Mercayo makes a new webhook secret, which you then paste into the webhook in your Razorpay Dashboard.
